In Praise of the Stepmother - Mario Vargas Llosa, Helen Lane I bought this one a few months ago and read the first 30 pages or so over lunch one Saturday afternoon. The writing is lovely, just lovely, though I fear I may find the subject matter disturbing. The child reads younger in the text than what I imagined from the cover description, which heightens the ick factor of the relationship for me. And yet, I'll read it just to push my own boundaries. Sometimes it can be cathartic to confront ourselves with something disturbing, just to affirm that there still are things that can rattle us.
