Rapture - Susan Minot Longest. Blow job. Ever.

There were some lovely bits in this tale of two lovers coming together for what is likely the last time, and the complete disconnection of their thoughts as Kay fellates Benjamin. For 116 pages. I just kept thinking, "Is it over yet?" Not a good sign for such a short book.

And yet, so much of what Kay was thinking could have been culled from my own soul that I cried profusely while reading. Minot gets points for that, for capturing the aching need inside of some women to love and be loved, and how it hurts when the person we invest our love in just can't give us what we want or need, and how we'll cling to anything that lets us believe that just isn't true, which is why the blow job lasts 116 pages.
