The Bonfire of the Vanities - Tom Wolfe One of my high school English teachers insisted I read this as I was an aspiring journalist at the time. I suppose I could say it helped form my sense of ethics and storytelling, and my disdain for stories that clearly fit some meme rather than reporting the complete facts. It was also a pretty good read, and I remember being very engaged with the story at the time I read it.
