I had to add a "romance" shelf for this book. I just don't read them as an adult. I did once upon a time as a lonely, hormonal teenager but once I started reading and appreciating good literature, I just couldn't stomach the bad writing in most romance novels. This was one of the last ones I read and enjoyed, probably because it gave me an independent female character with a modern sensibility in the kind of historical Scottish setting I enjoyed. Plus I'm generally a sucker for anything with time travel, and the Claire/Jamie relationship was kind of hot, at least to my still-adolescent self. It wasn't great literature, but I liked it enough to read the next two books in the series.
